Radiant Install Methods

Uponor radiant heating systems can be installed in several different ways.

In Concrete Before the Slab is Poured

This is an efficient and cost effective installation method. Used in both commercial and residential construction, this method has several advantages including lower cost and greater thermal storage ability.

Over Suspended Wooden Floors and Covered
with Poured Floor Underlayment

This common residential installation method is used when the tubing is installed in a poured floor underlayment. Pours are usually 1½" thick with no less than ¾" over the top of the tubing.
Over the Subfloor

For remodeling projects or additions where it is impractical to install tubing in a lightweight concrete pour or between the floor joists from below, consider the option of installing aluminum heat emission plates or Quik Trak™ panels over a suspended wood floor.

Between the Joists

This method is commonly used in both new and retrofit work where slab on grade or lightweight concrete applications are impractical. It is an effective option for remodels or floor conditioning, and is also used for heating the upper floors of a new home. No structural framing changes are needed.

Quik Trak®

Great for new or remodeling construction, Quik Trak® is an innovative solution to your customers' cold-floor problem areas. Easy to plan and install, this patented system of slim, ½"-thick profile wood panels can be installed over the existing concrete slab or plywood subfloors. The system of six preassembled panels makes installation even easier. Your customers will enjoy the fast response time and powerful heat output Quik Trak provides.

The comfort of radiant heat is still possible even when floor installation is not an option. Consider the possibility of wall and ceiling installation in retrofit jobs or as a supplement to radiant heat in a high heat-loss area. Wall and ceiling installations are simple to design and can be a lower cost alternative to radiant floors.
